The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has concluded plans to peg new Eagles handler’s pay at N5m that was given to sacked coach Samson Siasia. The NFF executive board jettisoned a recommendation of the technical committee for new coach Stephen Keshi to earn less than predecessor Samson Siasia. Instead they said that Keshi will earn N5m a month just like
Siasia pocketed when he was in charge of the national team. “Yes, it’s true that the technical committee recommended a reduced salary of three million Naira for Keshi, but the board have gone ahead to stick with the standard set with Siasia. Despite the fact that the NFF finances are not great, it would be downgrading a person of Keshi’s standing, who was a bigger player than Siasia.” An official told MTNFootball.com.
The executive committee also against the committee’s wish handed Keshi a contract till July 2014 to cover the 2014 World Cup. The technical committee wanted a short-term deal for the 49-year-old coach, but they opted instead to give Keshi a chance to succeed. Keshi will lead the Eagles for two friendlies at home against Botswana and Zambia.
Meanwhile, the NFF technical committee will meet next week to recommend a technical director for Nigeria, new coach for the Super Falcons as well as backroom staff for the national U-17 and U-20?women’s teams.
