Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State, has approved the sum of N176 million for effective operations of the Waste Management Board in the state.

Chief Olori Magege, Chairman of the Waste Management Board in the state who disclosed this to newsmen in Asaba yesterday, said the funds would be used for effective clearing of the refuse dumps, and environment clearing throughout the three senatorial districts.

He said that the Board would purchase and acquire new equipment to work for the smooth evacuation of waste, adding that more dump sites would also be acquired to ease the disposal of waste.

The Chairman also disclosed that plans were on for the board to establish the “Waste – Wealth Programme” that would? generate employment for about 30,000 youths inthe State.
According to him, waste would be bought by the Board from individuals and corporate bodies which will be processed and converted to fertilizers, manure, toiletries, pet bottles and paper.
