The Lagos State House of Assembly is set to constitute new committees and reduce their numbers when it resumes from the Eid-EL-Kabir holidays on Wednesday the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
?
A lawmaker, who would not want to be named, told NAN yesterday that the House leadership decided to reduce the number of committees because in the sixth Assembly, almost all the lawmakers had their respective committees which reduced their commitment to other committees where they served as members.
?
“In the past, you will find out that you would have to beg members to come out for committee work. The reason is that almost every member is a committee chairman,’’ the source said.
?
The lawmaker explained that whenever the need arose for lawmakers to carry out oversight functions, most members of committees did not show up as they were occupied in their individual committee assignments.
