No fewer than 16 people yesterday lost their lives during a ghastly auto crash along Auchi (Edo State) – Okene? (Kogi State) highway.

LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the incident occurred about 13 kilometres from Okene, the heart of Ebiraland in Kogi State.

Our correspondent also gathered that the auto crash occurred, following a head on collision between a Toyota Hiace bus marked? XT 911 FKJ and another Hiace bus marked XJ 700 USL.

It was also learnt that nine males, six females and a child were said to have died on the spot while 10 others who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed to the nearest hospitals in the area.

LEADERSHIP further gathered that 30 people were involved in the accident, while only four escaped unhurt.

The state sector commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Mr. Sunday Maku, who confirmed the incident in a telephone interview, attributed the incident to dangerous overtaking.

He urged motorists to always exercise patience while on the highway.
