About 6,067 cars are expected to reach the PTML, SFM and Five-Star terminals in Tin Can Island port, Apapa before the end of November, 2011, statistics released by the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA and obtained by our correspondent yesterday has shown.

Thousands of vehicles, especially Toyota Camry 2008 model lithered the TinCan Island Port yesterday, especially at the Five-Star Terminal. The terminal is to receive 3,312 vehicles out of the number, according to the NPA data. PTML will receive 2,700 vehicles, while 655 are expected from vessels that would berth at SFM Terminal.

“Our sons overseas have begun to send cars both as gifts for their parents and other relatives, as well as for their own movement when they come into the country this Christmas. This is well expected. We are just getting into the trend for the year,” Clement Obiwu, a Customs agent operating at the Tin Can Island Port told LEADERSHIP yesterday.

About 49,500MT of petroleum motor spirit (PMS) commonly known as fuel is expected to reach the ports this month as 376,431MT is already awaiting berth since October, with 171989MT at SBM, 116409MT at ACJ, 28000MT at Ibafon, 17039MT at PWA and 15,000MT at NOJ terminals. Capital Oil will receive 35,000MT, Ibafon 7,500MT, Obat 5000MT and Techno 2000MT out of the 49,500MT that will reach the ports before the end of November.

The figures also show that about 179,313MT of cement is expected to be imported into the country, as the dry season begins, with the ABTL Port receiving most of the import.

Also, while 218,075 metric tonnes (MT) of rice was imported in October and awaiting berth, 93260MT is expected to reach the ENL Terminals in the month of November. The terminal will also receive 9,410MT of fish this month with 7,183MT of fish in vessels awaiting berth.
