The governorship candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Kebbi State, Abubakar Mallam, has expressed satisfaction with the verdict of the Election Petitions Tribunal that annulled the election of Governor Saidu Dakingari in the April election, just as his party has described the verdict as a vindication of its stance that the 2011 polls were? flawed.
?
Mallam said he was confident that the victory at the tribunal would be upheld by the Court of Appeal if an appeal was made and that he was ready to face and defeat Dakingaria in a fresh election directed by the tribunal.
?
Mallam, who spoke to LEADERSHIP yesterday said: “The people in Kebbi are yearning for change, because the present government is terrible and completely lacks focus. Everyone knows that Kebbi is for CPC.”
?
The CPC candidate also said he had total confidence in the Appeal Court to give his party a fair hearing.
?
He said: “I am happy with the new Chief Justice of Nigeria; he is serious about reforming the judiciary. I believe that 99 per cent of Appeal Court judges are people of conscience.”
?
Meanwhile, the national secretariat of the CPC has described the verdict as a vindication to the party’s position that the 2011 general election was not as credible as the electoral commission had described it.
The national publicity secretary of the party, Mr.? Rotimi Fashakin, who also reacted to the tribunal verdict said, “It is a welcome development and a vindication to us.”
