Ghanaians have beaten their Nigerian counterparts to the top prizes at the just concluded David Mark Pro-Am international tournament tagged ‘Otukpo Green Commemorative Tournament.’ The 5-day event was part of the programme marking the commissioning ceremony of the 18 Hole-All-Green golf course built by Senate President, David Mark in Otukpo, Benue State.

Amos Korblah, Ghanaian and resident golfer with Otukpo Golf and Country Club lived up to his pre-tournament rating as he grossed 297, a point more than his compatriot V. Torgah of Achimota Golf and Country Club, Ghana to win the professional category. For his effort, Korblah took home the prestigious trophy and N1.3million star prize.

The amateur category? was won by Izang? Ayuba from Jos golf club,
who grossed 312, while the female category was won by Amina Wilfred from Kano Golf Club. They were rewarded respectively by a set of imported golf kits and 42” plasma television as well as trophies each. Scores of other winners got prizes ranging from televisions, refrigerators, motorcycles, generators and sewing machines.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the event, Senator Mark pledged commitment to supporting the development of the game of golf and sports generally in the country. According to him, the David Mark Pro-Am tournament remains an annual event and would hold February 2012.

Applauding the turn out of women golfers at the commemorative tournament, wife of the Senate President Helen Mark noted that more Nigerian women are now appreciating the game of golf because of its contribution to mental and physical alertness of the players.
