The Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Nnamdi Okore-Affia has appealed to the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to consider the immediate relocation of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council to another location.
Okore-Affia, who stated this while on a working visit to the Minister of State, FCT, Chief Olajumoke Akinjide, said this had become necessary to put at bay, the problem of space, which has been a major challenge of the scheme in the FCT.
The director-general also requested for land for the construction of residential quarters for corps members, considering the harrowing experiences many of them had to pass through because of the accommodation problem in the FCT.
He said: “We request for the relocation of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Kubwa to a more conducive place suitable for expansion. We have more universities coming up and that will translate to an increase in the number of corps members.
“We also request for land anywhere in the FCT for the NYSC Mass Housing Scheme; and the construction of Corpers’ Lodges to help alleviate the problems of our corps members who are unable to secure allocation in their areas of primary assignments.”
Responding, the minister of state noted that it had become imperative to relocate the camp in view of the current security situation in the country and the continuous expansion of the immediate vicinity of the orientation camp.
She advised the director-general to bring forward formal requests and assured that the administration will look into it.
