As the ongoing strike? embarked upon by? tankers drivers in Calabar depot entered its fourth day, the chairman of the Union, Alhaji Abdullahi Akomaye, has given reasons why members of the union? withdrew their services.
He said that the strike was embarked by the union to draw government’s attention to the dilapidated axis of Calabar-Itu road in Odukpani local government area of Cross River.
Alhaji Akomaye expressed regret over the strike even as it? pointed out that it was taken in the overall interest of the users of petroleum products in particular and economy at large.
But in a reaction to the development, men of the task force on petroleum have intensified the monitoring of petrol stations to instil sanity in the sale of petroleum products to commuters.
The task force, while controlling queues in the filling stations, advised marketers of the product not to cash in on the prevailing situation to exploit the masses through unnecessary hike in the price of petrol and added that the official rate of N65.00 per litre was still in force.
The task force assured commuters that necessary steps were being taken to ensure the commencement of loading from the various depots in the state and advised against panic buying as well as storing of petrol in containers in? homes as this was detrimental to the safety of lives and property.
