T??? he Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has accused British Airways of having disregard for constituted authority in Nigeria, just as it said that it stands by its report that British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are involved in air fare? fixing.? According to a statement signed by the NCAA Director General Dr.
Harold Demuren, the regulatory authority was conscious of its regulatory role in the industry and took a balanced and objective posture to ensure that the rights of the investigated airlines were respected as well as the interest of Nigerian passengers.??
Demuren statement is coming as British Airways? challenges the regulatory authority’s legal rights to investigate something that happened before the creation of NCAA and stressed that the British carrier has been confrontational in a letter it wrote to NCAA challenging it for taken action over the airfare? fixing issue.
“It is noteworthy that as has been characteristic of British Airways, their letter needlessly confronts NCAA stating that it had acted “unlawfully”, outside of its powers, without legal basis and usurped the Judiciary.?
While entirely false, these inflammatory statements were needless and did not add anything to any legal points BA sought to make.?
“The only possible objective of such a confrontational approach is to condescend to and undermine the regulator.?
