The TY Danjuma Foundation yesterday, carried out a one day interactive training session with heads of 30 women focused non-governmental organisations, NGOs.
The Executive Director (ED) of the foundation, Miss Thelma Ekiyor, said that the multifaceted training was aimed at empowering the participating organisations to write credible proposals so that they might get grants-providing organisations to buy into their vision.
“We noticed that for about two years now, the proposals we receive for women’s work are very poor and so we called for women issues- based NGOs to apply for training with us and the response was overwhelming. A lot of people applied but we could only take 30. We plan to do this every year,” the ED stated.
The selected NGOs are drawn from different parts of the country. Among the beneficiaries of the training were Women Empowerment League (WEL), World Centre For Best Change, Society For Widows and Orphans (SOWIPHANS), Women Initiative For Self Actualisation (WISA), Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation and Women Without Walls.
One of the lucky participants in the training, Mrs Gladys Mamman, Executive Director of a Jos based NGO, Fortress for Ethical Education For Societal Development Initiative (FEESDI) stated: “
the major challenge facing a lot of NGOs was that of funding and most donors won’t give grants to NGOs that don’t have a working and strategic structure.
