The president of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, Solomon Ogba, has said that unless Nigeria buckles up and prepares adequately for the Olympics, the country will be disappointed. Nigeria has been plagued by the perennial problem of shoddy preparations for major championships whether in football, athletics or basketball.

Ogba stated that the Olympics is not an Inter House sports competition.”The Olympics is not an Inter House sports competition. Unless we do the right thing, we will be disappointed. We may win a couple of medals but the nation may be disappointed.”

Nigeria will next year participate in the world’s biggest sports event and observers are sharing different opinions on the level of preparations by the various sports federations in winning medals for the country in the event.
