At least 20 people including a serving police officer and his family members were feared killed in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State following renewed violence that broke out Wednesday night between the natives and Fulani herdsmen.

LEADERSHIP investigations revealed that over 50 houses were set ablaze.

The dead police officer’s name was given as Dalyop Pindar. A councilor, Pam Choji and four of his children were also hacked down.

A source who did not want his name in print told??? LEADERSHIP that he counted 15 bodies which were brought to the mortuary from the area.

A 24-hour curfew has been declared in Barkin Ladi LGA.

A statement issued by the spokesman of the Special Task Force on Jos crisis codenamed “Operation Save Haven,” Captain Charles Okeocha, said it was as a result of the disturbances in the area.

He advised people in the area to remain in-doors as the STF had taken this measure to prevent further destruction of lives and property.

Plateau State government confirmed that only four casualties were recorded during the violence and they include a serving police officer and his wife; while his son was recovering in an undisclosed hospital in the state.
