FG Lacks Blueprint To Salvage Economy-TUC

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has said that the present administration lacks the blueprint to salvage the nation’s economy, saying that there is the need for President Goodluck Jonathan to wake up to the responsibility of meeting the desire and aspiration of the masses.
?

The national president of the TUC, Mr. Peter Esele, stated this in Kaduna yesterday at the 4th triennial delegates conference of the council.
?

He said, “Since its inception in May, 2011, the present administration is yet to come up with any national economic blueprint to salvage our national economy but has only been toying with typical IMF/Worldbank imperialist policy prescriptions, such as privatizations of public enterprises rather than a parallel encouragement of investors.
?

“We urge the government to convene a stakeholders’ conference to enable us brainstorm and come up with the appropriate policy.”
?

The TUC further warned President Jonathan over any further dialogue with stakeholders on the removal of fuel subsidy, and called on government to fix the four nation’s moribund refineries, education, and health to enable life become more meaningful to the average Nigerian.
?

He said, “Our position is that government should make all four refineries to operate at maximum capacity as well as establish more such that we do not have to import in foreign currencies petroleum products we ought to have refined in our country. We call on the federal government to be more forthcoming on its agenda to revamp our national economy and bring joy to our suffering masses.”
?

The Kaduna state TUC chairman, Mr. Paul Jezhi, had earlier? said that the removal of fuel subsidy would add pain and hardship to Nigerians.
