The Special Task Force (STF) maintaining security in Plateau has arrested 163 persons over Sunday's violence in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area where 10 people were officially confirmed killed.
The STF on Thursday imposed a 24-hour curfew on the council area to stem the hostilities from spreading to other parts of the state.
STF spokesman Charles Ekeocha, who paraded the suspects in Jos on Friday, said that six of those arrested had been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department in connection with the killing of a police inspector and his family.
Ekeocha explained that 10 of the suspects were arrested with lethal weapons, among them a telescopic-barrelled rifle, four single-barrelled guns and two AK47 rifles.
The arms included nine locally made guns, two AK47 rifle magazines and other live ammunition.
He noted that many people were killed while “no fewer than 10 houses were burnt'' in Sunday's disturbances.
The STF spokesman reminded the residents of Barkin Ladi that the curfew imposed on the area was still in force, saying that the situation would only be reviewed on the restoration of law and order.?
