Hippopotami Terrorise Villagers, Kill One, Destroy Farmlands

Residents of Jebba community, one of the host communities of the three hydro electric power dams in Niger State now live in fear of possible attack by hippopotami that had so far killed a villager and destroyed farm lands.
?

LEADERSHIP WEKEND gathered that the wild animals that normally live in big rivers have been terrorising the people of Jebba in Mokwa local government area of the state for the past few months.
?

It was gathered that the villagers knew about the presence of these animals in the River Niger boundary area with Kwara State, but did not raise any eye brow because they had not posed any danger to them until last August when they started destroying their farm land, an incident that led to the death of one the villagers.
?

It was further learnt that the animals usually come in the night when the villagers might have gone to sleep, wreak havoc on their farm land and sometimes pose threat to their life.
?

The village head of Jebba and, Etsu Yanpa, Alhaji Tetengi Mohammed, while confirming the attack on his village, appealed to the Federal Ministry of Environment and other government agencies to come to their aid following the massive destruction of their farmland.
?

Tetengi said a mass farmland of rice belonging to his subjects was destroyed by the hippopotami, hampering fishing and farming activities which are the main economic activities of the people.
