Serving and retired jurists, at the end of the All Nigeria Judges’ Conference have praised the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Dahiru Musdapher, for what they described as his? auspicious leadership? in piloting the affairs of the judiciary.
The jurists said this in a communiqué to mark the end of the conference held? at the National Judicial Institute (NJI) Abuja? last Friday.
The jurists also said that they appreciated the statement by President Goodluck Jonathan that judiciary had remained a stabilising factor in the quest to instill a democratic structure in Nigeria.
The communiqué reads in part, “We appreciated President Jonathan for his acknowledgment of the fact that the Judiciary has “contributed immensely to the growth, development and continued unity of Nigeria as a country”; and that the Judiciary at some of the most critical periods of our history as a country, has been “the bridge and unifying arm of Government”.
The NJI Administrator, Justice Umaru Eri,? noted that the choice of the? theme of the conference titled,? “Impact Assessment of NJI’s Training? Programmes on staff of the Nigerian Judiciary” was borne out of the desire that the dreams of the founding fathers of the judiciary were? not dashed, it was meant to bring to the fore, those ethics? and ethical values that are associated with the judiciary such as fairness, impartiality, accountability, independence, amongst others.
The conference however asked Justice Eri to include in its curriculum of trainings, workshops/seminars for judges on emerging crimes such as money laundering, human trafficking, organised crimes, terrorism financing, as well as management skills and information technology.
