Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has commended the Nigerian Bottling Company (NBC) for the award of (FSSC 22000) from the Food Safety Systems Certification (FSSC).
Besides, the company has marked its 60th anniversary of? operation in Nigeria. Director-General, Consumer Protection Council, Ify Umenyi, listed some of the benefits of the certification to include ISO based supply chain approach, independent, international standards, stakeholders approval and commitment, independent scheme management and transparency.
She therefore urged the company to ensure that it abide to quality standards of production, which she said has now led to the issuing of the certification by FSSC.
Umenyi said: “This is a laudable achievement and a good example of industry self regulation, which should spur the organisation to improving upon their production of good quality products that satisfies the needs of consumers and value for their money.”
FSSC 22000 certificate is an award initiated by the foundation for food safety to recognise organisations that have met international standards in food safety. Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Ngeri Benebo, said that one of the reasons for recognising the NBC for the certification, was its compliance with the standards of FSSC. She noted that obeying environmental laws lead to utilisation of resources, which would result to less waste products and at the same time preserving the nation’s environment and health.
