Dream Team: I Take Full Responsibility – Eguavoen

Dream Team V coach, Austin Eguavoen has said he takes full responsibility for Nigeria’ bad performances at the ongoing CAF U-23 Olympic Games playoffs holding in Morocco. The Nigerian Olympic team lost two consecutive matches against Morocco and Senegal making it almost impossible to qualify to the semi final of the event and book a place eventually for the Olympics in London. The Eguavoen tutored side fell 1-2 to Senegal after an earlier 1-0 loss in the hands of host Morocco. Eguavoen stated that his wards did not play to instructions especially in the first half. “I take responsibility for today’s result. The game did not go the way we planned because the boys did not keep to instructions in the first half.” he said.

Looking ahead to the next game against Algeria, Eguavoen maintained that he needs to do a lot of psychological work on the players. “It is not so easy, we need to do a lot of psychological work on the boys; because many of them think it is all over, but I have to let them know it is not over until it’s over. We need to pick the last three points and leave the rest to fate”
For Nigeria to make the Semi finals of the U-23 championship they must beat Algeria by at least three un-replied goals and hope that Morocco beats Senegal by same margin.
