The Department of State Security Service, SSS, Niger State has raided a fake National Youth Service Corps, NYSC,? orientation camp in Bosso area of Minna, the State Capital, arresting the coordinator ,? kenechukwu Osinomumu and 34? participants.
The Assistant Director, security of the SSS in the State, Mr Essien Okon, told a news conference, yesterday, in Minna that the camp was located in a primary school opposite the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Bosso Campus.
He said that the 34 participants comprising 21 female and 13 male were made to pay between N120, 000 to N350,000 to participate in the fake orientation.
Okon said that the participants were mainly graduates of satellites campuses of some universities who were desperate to possess NYSC discharge certificates.
He also said that the victims were in various part -time programmes of the affected schools and added that “the victims of the scam volunteered statements on how they parted with their money so as to be integrated into the fake scheme that would have enabled them to possess the NYSC discharge certificate.
“ The command implored Parents /Guardians to show more concern? and interest in the activities of their wards, as it was evident that the students proceeded on the pseudo orientation course being fully aware that as part-term graduates of tertiary institutions they were not qualified to participate in the scheme” okon added.
He said that because of the urge to under- cut the system and obtain the NYSC discharge certificate, they fell victims to scammers and warned against any attempt to subvert the system.
