The Zamfara Commissioner of Police, Tambari Yari, said he narrowly escaped an armed robbery attack a week ago when he ran into a road block set up by the gangsters on Talata Mafara/Gusau road.
The commissioner said this in Gusau yesterday while narrating the incident to the AIG Zone 10, Alhaji Ibrahim Machi who was on a two-day familiarisation tour of the State.
He said that he ran into the robbers at about 9.30 pm on his way back from Talata Mafara and added that he was not attacked.
The commissioner decried the increasing cases of robberies in the State and pledged to take decisive steps to contain the situation.
He however complained of poor facilities and urged the AIG to intervene, “especially bearing in mind the attacks police facilities are facing across the country in recent times.’’
The commissioner commended the State government for its support to the police and disclosed that recently the command received 20 patrol vehicles from the State even as it pledged additional 20 more vehicles, to enhance effective patrols.
Yari assured residents of the State that the command would launch new operation strategy to rid the State of criminals and urged the AIG to post more policemen to the State.
