Eight persons died while nine others sustained serious injuries following an accident at Kanawa Forest near Kwadon village in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of Gombe, on Sunday.
According to an eye witness, Malam Mohammed Sani, the accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. as a result of dangerous overtaking.
When contacted, Mr Mohammed Suleiman, Assistant Route Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Gombe, confirmed that seven persons died on the spot while one died on the way to the hospital.
He said eight others sustained injuries and were taken to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Gombe, adding that another victim of the accident was receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital in the state.
Suleiman said the accident involved three cars, a vectra with registration number AG 905 Misau, an 18-seater bus with registration number XA 602 Mubi and a Toyota car with registration number AA 562 Gombe.
He said the accident was as a result of dangerous overtaking by the driver of the vectra car which led to a collision with the bus which was travelling to Mubi, while the Toyota car was parked beside the road.
