The Dangote Foundation has begun the disbursement of N600million to women in Kano State.
The disbursement began on Saturday at the Sani Abacha Stadium with initial 4,400 beneficiaries drawn from the 44 local government areas of the state.
The money was disbursed through the Women Empowerment and Free School Feeding Schemes of Kano State government.
The development came just? as the Dangote Foundation promised to build a 500-student capacity hostel for Kano State University.
Speaking at the disbursement ceremony, Kano State Governor? Rabiu Kwankwaso described the N600million contribution of the Dangote Foundation as unprecedented in the history of the state.
He described the President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote,? as a strong partner in the development of the state.
The governor urged beneficiaries not to divert the money for other uses, but to invest it judiciously in the trades they had learnt at the training centres.
Also speaking at the event, the Head of the Government? responsible for the management of the scheme – Community Re-orientation Committee (CRC), Alhaji Bello Toranke, said 44,000 women would benefit from the Dangote gesture.
Speaking on the selection process, Toranke said there were 8,000 polling units and each polling unit would produce five women.? He therefore urged women who wanted to be part of the programme to return to their wards’ CRC office for screening.
Noting that the money would? certainly change the lives of the women in Kano, Toranke? added that government alone could not bring about the desired change without all hands being on the deck.
Representative of Alhaji Aliko Dangote at the event, Mr. Ahmed Iya,? thanked the governor for giving the Foundation the opportunity to contribute its quota to the development of the state and urged beneficiaries to maximise the benefits.
