The Chairman, South -East Governors’ Forum and Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, has said that the? ex Biafran warlord, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu,? will be buried on February 2, 2012.
Speaking with journalists yesterday at the Enugu State Government House shortly after a meeting of the Forum, Obi said the burial rites of the late Igbo leader would? begin? in Enugu on February 2, saying that his? remains would thereafter? be taken to his country home in? Nnewi for interment.
According to the governor, a committee will soon be set up to discuss further details of the burial arrangements of Ojukwu.
He disclosed that all the South -East and South -South? States that made up the former old Eastern Region, as well as the Presidency will participate in the ceremonies that is scheduled for Enugu.
Obi said, “On February 2,? 2012, the burial ceremony of Ojukwu will take place in Enugu after which his corpse will be taken to his country home, Nnewi for internment.”
Obi explained that the decision to commence the interment ceremonies of the late icon in Enugu, was informed by the fact that Enugu was the capital of the former Eastern Region.
Meanwhile, the Forum has called on the five states in the zone to intensify efforts in tackling the security challenges in their areas. All the governors of the South East were at the meeting.
