The Chairman of Abaji Area Council, FCT,?? Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad,? has pledged to strengthen the council’s? poverty alleviation scheme through the establishment of skills acquisition centres for youths and women in the council.
Muhammad? stated this in Abaji at a forum aimed at strengthening poverty alleviation in the council organised for unemployed youth and women.
The LG boss,? who was represented by the Head of Education Department of the council,? Alhaji Idris Mumbu, said the council had so far enrolled over 250 unemployed youths and women in its poverty alleviation scheme.
He added that the plan to strengthen poverty alleviation scheme of the council was to ensure that the enrolled youths and women under the scheme were trained in vocational skills.
The council boss therefore called on youths and women under the scheme to ensure that the stipends given to them at the end of every month by the council were invested in micro businesses.
He said, “Our gathering today is to further reiterate the commitment of the present council administration towards poverty alleviation through youths and women empowerment.
“I encourage you to be committed and dedicated to the skill acquisition program to be introduced under the scheme so as to enhance the realization of the goals of the scheme.”
