With just 25 days left for the 2011 fiscal year to terminate, the House of Representatives Committee on Federal Capital Territory, FCT, has given the FCT administration N940m for capital projects.
The virement proposal, which the committee approved during a meeting with the FCT Minister, Sen. Bala Mohammed, and other officials of the ministry in the National Assembly yesterday, was passed without debate by the members who said it was straightforward.
The meeting took place for about 30 minutes after which the lawmakers went into a closed-door session with the minister which lasted for about an hour.
But, Hon. Jerry Manwe and Hon. Yakubu Dogara, advised the FCT to ensure that the money was used judiciously just as the chairman of the committee, Hon. Jerry Manwe noted that, “if the funds is not accessed, the whole exercise of the virement will be a waste”.
In his remarks earlier, the FCT minister called for collaboration with the House on the virement proposal so that “we will be able to finish most of the capital projects in the 2011 appropriation”.??
Only last week, the lawmakers scaled the request by President Goodluck Jonathan to vire about N98.4billion in the 2011 budget for the second reading.
