Katsina state government has earmarked the sum of two hundred and sixty five million naira (N265M) for its Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme to boost girl-child education in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Katsina yesterday, the Special Adviser to Governor Shema on Girl-child education, Hajiya Bilkisu Kaikai said the programme was geared towards “encouraging and? promoting girl-child enrolment, continuation and completion of primary education.”
Hajiya Kaikai said through the CCT programme, nine thousand and fifty nine (9,059) indigent girls selected from nine local government areas of the state would be provided with money for their upkeep while in school.
“The department of girl child education identified the poorest and vulnerable girl-child from the three senatorial districts of the state through a rigorous process of selection, for the exercise” Kaikai
stated.
She said the programme which was being carried out in collaboration with the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) was part of the state government’s targeted policies to strengthen girl-child education.
