The Court of Appeal in Kaduna State yesterday upheld the election of former? National Vice Chairman of the Peoples? Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Danladi Sankara.
Senator Sankara is representing? Kazaure Emirate in Jigawa State at the upper house of the National Assembly.
In a lead judgment delivered by Justice Aboki, the appellate court dismissed the appeal by the former governor of Jigawa State, Senator Saminu Turaki, and re-affirmed the election of Senator? Sankara.
Senator Turaki who contested? on the platform of Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), had alleged that the PDP candidate was not not qualified to contest? the April? election on the grounds of certificate scandal.
He also claimed that the Senator Sankara testified before the Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Jigawa State that he (Sankara)? did not attend secondary school.
But Justice Aboki in his verdict said, “The school certificate was not an issue and hereby strike the case? and reaffirmed the election of Danladi Sankara? and dismissed the appeal”
The appellate court also upheld the election of Hon. Tijjani Ibrahim Kiyawa? of the PDP member representing? Dutse/ Kiyawa Federal Constituency In Jigawa State? by dimissing the appeal by Hon. Yakubu Mohammed of the ACN.
