The operational managers and accountants of the attacked new generation banks in Azare town of Katagum Local Government Area of Bauchi State were accused of masterminding last Saturday’s banks raid and robbery that took place in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State command, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba stated this yesterday during a press briefing in his office. He said that after an indepth investigation, the command has discovered that the banks officials were the conspirators of the robbery, disclosing further that the sums of N25.1 million and N7.3 million were looted from the two banks respectively on the eventful day.
He said the operational managers of one of the banks told the police that around 11:30 pm of last Saturday, he received a distress call from an anonymous customer having problems with his ATM card and rushed instantly to assist him but was unfortunately held up on gun point and forced to open the vault where the sum of N7.3 million was carted away. On his part, the manager of the other bank claimed that he forgot the keys of the vault in his drawers, which were used by the bandits to gain access to the vault, from where they carted away the sum of N25.1 million.
Aduba, who refuted the two claims, said the security agents on night duty have said that they did not witness such incident and that they only heard an explosion of bombs by the bandits stressing that the attack on the police station in the town was only a planned mischief by the accused banks officials.
Apart from the banks managers and accountants, the CP revealed that one of the suspected sponsored bandits who attacked the banks was also arrested and is currently under police custody.
