The Deputy Governor of Benue State, Chief Steven Lawani, has maintained that the rule of law will prevail in the ongoing legal tussle in Benue State between the governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Prof. Steven Ugbah and Governor Gabriel Suswam.
He also said that the state? government would continue to maintain its credibility and integrity throughout the election tussle.
Reacting to allegations by the opposition ACN that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)? stole the mandate of? Ugbah, Lawani? said that the PDP was the party in government while the ACN was the party in opposition, adding that the issue of credibility would always be an issue.
He said, “In recent times, I have refrained myself from talking to the press because I believe that the tribunal should be allowed to do its work. So, we have refrained from talking like the ACN has been doing.
“Please understand the following, as far as Benue is concerned, we cannot lie; we use verifiable facts as they are. Facts that can be correlated and verified empirically. So, we cannot lie to our people.??
“The party in opposition, particularly the ACN, told so many lies both before and after the election about what it can do, so much so that even now that it has seen the truth and the facts, it is unable to interpret the correct thing to their people.
So, the difference between us and them is, whereas the facts are there for everyone to see, the party is still day-dreaming and finding it difficult to tell its people the correct thing.”
He said? there was no truth whatsoever in the claim by Ugbah and his party? that they won the election.
“The ACN candidate did not win the election as he claimed, because the figures are there.? In the Senatorial election in Zone C which is Idoma land, Senator David Mark won the election; in the House of Representatives, PDP won four, while the ACN did not win any seat”.
