Wednesday was a terrible day for the Kogi State Police Command, following the killing of four policemen by? unknown gunmen at Okene.
LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the fallen policemen were ambushed at about 8pm at Ahache junction, along Okene-Auchi road, on their way to the Area Commander’s office.
Some policemen had earlier in the morning of the fateful day intercepted a Golf car at Ahache, along Okene-Ogori road, and recovered 10 AK 47 rifles.
Our correspondent gathered that although all the occupants of the vehicle escaped, police were able to apprehend a lady and the driver of the vehicle.
Following the ugly development, policemen in the town searched every nook and cranny of the town for the hoodlums.
LEADERSHIP further learnt the development had heightened tension in the town, and a house the police said was being used as a hideout by criminals in the area? was been razed.
The police public relations officer,ASP Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the killing of four of their men in a telephone interview and said investigation into the matter was still in progress, even as he assured that those behind the dastardly act would be fished out.
