The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Terence McCulley, has applauded President Goodluck Jonathan for removing Farida Waziri as the chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). This is the US first public reaction to Farida’s removal.
In an opinion-editorial to commemorate International Anti-corruption Day, Ambassador McCulley, said, “I applaud President Goodluck Jonathan’s recent move to change the leadership of the EFCC, and his willingness to seek a strong candidate to lead the Independent Commission to Prevent Corruption and other related Offenses (ICPC).”
President Jonathan had on November 23 removed Waziri as EFCC’ chairman and replaced her with Ibrahim Lamorde. No official reason was given for the removal but it was not unconnected to allegations of corruption against her and complaints from the West.
