The community of Ohi in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State and the entire citizens of the state were thrown into mourning on Sunday, following the death of the former Medical Director of Umugwuma General Hospital, Dr. Moses Amako who died after allegedly paying a N20m ransom to his kidnappers.
LEADERSHIP gathered that Amako, who had earlier been relieved of his job at the hospital only a few months ago unceremoniously was reputed to be one of the best surgeons in the state and was preparing for his retirement in February, 2012 before his untimely death.
The expert surgeon, according to an eye witness was kidnapped Thursday, December 1, on his way to his residence at about 7 pm in company of his wife.
The source who claimed to have witnessed the incident revealed that, a white jeep blocked the Honda Civic vehicle the doctor and his wife were driving, and there was fierce shooting from the occupants of the white jeep aimed at the couple.
Amako, it was further reported, was shot on his left leg before his vehicle came to a halt. The wife was reportedly pushed down from the vehicle while Amako was taken away.
But a few days into his captivity, an alleged sum of N20million was said to have been demanded and paid as ransom for his release.
