The Economic and Financial Crimes? Commission (EFCC) yesterday tendered three documents as evidence? in the prosecution of the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir el-Rufai and two others for the alleged allocation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) land to family members and friends in breach of Abuja Master Plan.??
The two other accused persons arraigned with el-Rufai before an Abuja High Court, are former Director-General, Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS), Altine Jubrin and former General-Manager, AGIS, Ismail Iro.
At the resumed hearing in the matter yesterday, before Justice Sadiq Umar, the EFCC lawyer ,Mr Adebayo Adelodun (SAN) presented the first witness, Mr. Mohammed Sani Alhassan, a former Executive Secretary in Engineering Department of the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA.
But, Alhassan told the court that he had advised el-Rufai against re-allocation? of the PHCN land other than the purpose for which it was allocated, “but the former Minister ignored my advise”, he told the court.
The documents, which were presented before the court included, A letter written by Julius Berger Plc to the Engineering Department, FCDA, dated January 26,? 2007. The letter was a reminder that the plot of land in dispute at Asokoro- Abuja was ear-marked for the PHCN. El-Rufai was made to understand that converting the plot to another use will adversely affect the bulk of power supply and distribution to the city.? The case has been adjourned to February 16, 2012.
