The Gombe State House of Assembly yesterday approved the nomination of Mr. Tha’anda Jason Rubainu as the new deputy governor of the state.
Rubainu takes over following the death of Mr. David Miyim Albashi, the former deputy governor.
Rubainu’s nomination was forwarded to the Assembly by Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo for confirmation. A motion for his nomination was moved and presented by the majority leader, Hon. Mamman Alkali, and it was seconded and supported by minority leader Hon. Dan’azumi. All described the nominee as a charismatic and committed person who deserved the position.
At the chamber of the Assembly during the session, the speaker, Hon. Inuwa Garba, invited the nominee just as he answered some questions from the Assembly members before his nomination was finally approved.
Until his nomination as the deputy governor, Rubainu was the chairman, Gombe State Transport Service and board member Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). He was a member of the House of Representatives, representing Tangale/Waja federal constituency of the then defunct Bauchi State. He also served as state coordinator, National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP), as well as area manager, Savannah Sugar Company Limited, Lagos.
Speaking shortly after he was cleared by the Assembly, Rubainu promised to use his wealth of experience which he gathered in both the public and private sectors in managing the office of the deputy governor effectively.
He commended the members of the Gombe Assembly for their kind gesture in considering him worthy to occupy the vacant office of the deputy governor.
It would be recalled that the late Albashi died in November at a Germany hospital where he was flown to for medical attention after a ghastly auto crash which left him in a critical state in August this year.
