The board of Nigeria Premier League (NPL) side, Enugu Rangers has been sent packing.
A letter emanating from the office of the Enugu State sports commissioner, Chijioke Agu, revealed that the tenure of the Rangers’ board had expired since August 21, 2011.
A club source hinted that the letter sacking the board of the Coal City side will be handed over to the NPL acting executive secretary, Tunji Babalola, in Yenagoa during the Premier League’s congress this weekend.
The content of the letter clearly states that business dealings with the Rangers’ board are “null and void” since its tenure elapsed on August 21 this year.
The sack of the board is part of the sweeping changes taking place at the Flying Antelopes after ending another season without a trophy.
The CEO of the club, Paul Ozor Chibuzor, has been handed the responsibility of running the team alongside his chief executive duties until a new board comes into office.
Earlier on Thursday, Rangers’ head coach, Alphonsus Dike, resigned ahead of a meeting yesterday that would have seen him sacked.
It is 27 years since Rangers won a major trophy after winning 12 titles between the 1970s and early 1980s.
Rangers have won six league titles, five FA Cups (now known as the Federation Cup) and one African Cup Winners Cup, which is now the CAF Confederation Cup.
