The protest by residents of the Lekki-Epe expressway to resist the introduction of toll by the Lagos State Government in conjunction with the Lekki Concession Company, concessionaires of the road may continue today even as Lagos State Governor Babatunde? Fashola (SAN), yesterday, appealed to residents living in the Lekki-Epe? corridor to cooperate with the state government and the concessionaire in its effort to tackle problems of infrastructural decay in the state .
LEADERSHIP gathered that the residents, led by a Human Rights Lawyer Mr. Ebun Olu- Adegboruwa are being mobilised for another round of protests on the road.
The toll collection which has commenced on the road, witnesses saloon cars and tricycles paying N120 each per trip, motorcycles N50 and heavy duty vehicles N300.
A resident who spoke on a condition of anonymity told our correspondent that the residents will start laying sleeping mats on the road and make it impossible for motorists who may want to pay the toll to ply the route.
Corroborating this claim, Adegboruwa and other residents along the Lekki-Epe corridor vowed to continue their protest till the tolling is revered.
Fashola who drove himself to the toll plaza to personally experience the tolling system got trapped in a serious traffic congestion caused by the tolling.
The governor, however, waited on the long cue before he passed through the toll plaza after paying for his ticket.
Fielding questions from journalists shortly after monitoring and evaluating the system, the governor who ordered the police to release all arrested protesters noted that those whom the toll plaza has created employment for were the main beneficiary of the project.
