A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Mohammed Sada, has expressed worry at the way some media practitioners mislead the public with their reports.
Hon. Sada, who represents Katsina Central Federal Constituency on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), made this comment to journalists on Monday in Abuja in reaction to a publication in some national dailies on the judgement of the Supreme Court regarding CPC. He said that the newspaper went to town with a different interpretation from the court judgement, a development, he said, was not healthy for journalism practice in the country.
According to the lawmaker, the court did not pronounce that any representatives or senators affected should vacate their seats for others to assume as was reported by some sections of the media.
The CPC in Katsina State has been factionalised and involved in a legal battle since the conclusion of 2011 general election, with factions claiming to have produced the authentic candidates.
The apex court presided by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Dahiru Mustapha and delivered by Justice Walter Samuel Nkanu, ruled that the court had no jurisdiction to entertain the matter and struck it out.
Sada explained that the CPC, as a party, had stressed the need for the status quo to remain as the judgement shows no winner no loser.
