The State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, has pleaded with the United Nations to pay greater attention to issues of Bakassi resettlement with a view to ameliorating the sufferings of displaced persons in the area.

?Imoke made the plea in Calabar while receiving the United Nations Needs Assessment Team and officials of the National Boundary Commission (NBC) who were in the state on a visit to Bakassi Local Government Area.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Efiok Cobham, noted that the decision to cede the Bakassi Peninsula to the Republic of Cameroun was activated by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague, the United Nations and other witnessing nations, and maintained that the consequences of that action should be jointly addressed by all parties.
