Northern Youth under aegis of Arewa Youth Forum, (AYF), yesterday, cautioned that the planned protest by? Nigerian Workers under the umbrella of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and other Civil Society groups over government’s plan to remove? subsidy on petroleum products, would jeopardise the security of the country.
AYF, in a statement signed by its National President, Alhaji Gambo Gujungu, appealed to the Federal Government, NLC and other Civil Societies in the country to seek an alternative way to address the issues without recourse to protest.
“Without mincing words, the Forum has made its stand on the issue known at various fora. We believe Nigerians need to be aware of what the subsidy issue is all about and the benefits to them.
“Northern youths are not happy with the politicisation of the debate itself. As it stands, the debate has only been an academic exercise by the elite, and those that have the money to engage the apparatus of the press.
“This is not good enough as the ordinary Nigerians on the streets are still finding it difficult to understand the issues involved in the subsidy saga,” the statement noted.
