The family of the late Deputy Inspector General of Police(DIG), Mr. Ganiyu Dawodu has come down hard on? a section of the media over several speculations that have been reported? concerning the circumstances of his death.
In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, the family insists that Dawodu died in Lagos while on an official assignment to represent the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Hafiz Ringim.
The family said the speculative media reports are compounding their grief, “ by generally creating doubt and suspicion about the circumstances of Mr. Dawodu’s death”.
While acknowledging that their late father was a public officer which apparently accounted for the interest that the media has shown over his death, they were however unhappy the way a section of the media have been reporting it.
The statement reads: “Dawodu was a public officer and we understand the considerable interest in his death. But seeing? the report of his death, as it has been done by a section of the press, does not serve the interest of the ongoing investigations by the police. Nor does it show the slightest regard for the family’s agonies. For us, Dawodu was more than a public officer. He was a gentleman and a deeply committed family man, beyond a shadow of doubt.
As the authorities continue their investigations, we are comforted by the memory of Dawodu’s outstanding life of service to God and country”.
