The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Dahiru Musdapher has said that the country’s judicial system has been reformed in order to ensure the administration of justice to the pride and delight of all Nigerians.
Musdapher disclosed this in Port Harcourt yesterday at the unveiling of the Rivers State Customary Court of Appeal Rules, the Rivers State Customary Courts Rules 2011 and a publication titled: ‘Towards Excellence in the Dispensation of Justice at the grassroots.’
He said: “What we have come here today for is in line with the reformation agenda which I, as Chief Justice of Nigeria, have put in place. It’s an ongoing journey and this journey is starting from the grassroots; it’s in keeping with our vision and the administration of justice to the pride and happiness of all Nigerians.”
The CJN, who was represented by a Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Mary Peter-Odili, pledged to partner with Rivers State government to promote justice not only in the state but throughout the country.
“We shall partner with the governor to ensure that what’s going on in Rivers State applies to every state of the federation so that our judiciary will be properly presented,” he said.
Musdapher commended Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for his untiring commitment to the courts of the state, pointing out that the state was governed by a constitutionally compliant governor.
Also speaking, the chief judge of the state, Justice Iche Ndu, praised Amaechi for his continued compliance with the dictates of the constitution and prompt release of funds to the courts in the state judiciary.
Ndu noted: “Let me personally convey my gratitude and that of the entire judiciary to His Excellency, the Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for the release of funds to the Judiciary to enable it discharge its constitutional functions.
“Governor Amaechi has made history as one of the very few governors who complies with the provisions of section 121 subsection 3 of the 1999 Constitution as amended. The High Court and Customary Court of Appeal of Rivers State benefit and enjoy His Excellency’s commitment to the release of funds as mandated by the constitution.
“This government as a government is committed to constitutional democracy in the area of release of funds to the judiciary has become public knowledge beyond Rivers State and received commendations at the last August 2011 Annual Bar Conference in Rivers State and at the Nigerian All Judges Conference in November.”
If truely Nigerian Judiciary Is Reformed, this is a great news. Each type of govermment institution in Nigeria should not interfere with onoe anther.
