President Goodluck Jonathan has been asked to wade into the continued closure of the Adamawa State House of Assembly at the instance of the state governor, Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd), as the closure negates the principle of separation of powers and an indictment on the Adamawa State police commissioner.
Upon the impeachment of the former speaker of the State’s House of Assembly and his subsequent replacement with Hon. Ahmadu Umar Fintiri, armed policemen have sealed up the Assembly complex on the directives of the state commissioner of police.
But the group, Youth Awareness for Change has accused Governor Murtala Nyako of masterminding the closure, saying that the governor was dishing out instructions to the Adamawa CP, since he was against the emergence of the present Speaker and hence unnecessarily scared of the continued sitting of the Assembly.
Briefing journalists yesterday in Abuja, coordinator of the group, Aliyu Baba Wadde, alleged that against the security reasons cited by the CP, political undertones were actually the reason behind the closure.
Against the security reasons being cited by the Adamawa CP, the group said religious and ethnic factors cum ethnic leanings were actually the basis for the closure of the Assembly. It accused the governor of being against the emergence of Fintiri solely because he was of the marghi tribe and not of Fulani stock in the state.
‘’ The governor has continued to base his objection to Fintiri’s emergence on zoning in the state, while forgetting that this has been the order in the state.
