Vice-President Namadi Sambo on Friday joined members of the “Tijjaniyya’’ Muslim group to pray for the country’s peace and progress.
The prayer session, which took place at the National Mosque, Abuja, was led by the leader of the “Tijjanniyya’’ group, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi.
Sambo commended the group’s leadership for its efforts in promoting religious harmony in the country.
He told State House correspondents that “this is an annual prayer by the Muslim Ummah to pray for the nation.
“And as you have witnessed, we just prayed for the peace and progress in this country; we also prayed that all Nigerians, whether Muslims or Christians, should join hands together in?promoting the growth of the country.”
“We all belong to Nigeria and Nigeria belongs to us. We prayed to Almighty Allah to grant this administration that chance to transform Nigeria such that this country would be developed,?while we are able to drive away poverty from our nation.”
Sambo urged other religious bodies to continue to support and promote peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic and religious groups in the country.
Thousands of “Tijjanniyya’’ members in the country and those from some West African countries participated in the prayer session.
