The lawmaker representing Lavun/Mokwa/Edati federal constituency, Hon. Sani Mohammed Kutigi (PDP, Niger State) has called for peaceful relationship among Muslims and Christians in the country.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Kutigi said harmonious relationship between followers of the two great religions was the panacea to development of the country.
“While I felicitate with Nigerian as they celebrate Christmas, I urge them to always live in peace with one another. Both Islam and Christianity are religion of God; there is, therefore, no reason why followers of the two faiths should not live in peace.
“If you look at Niger State as a whole, within the Nupe speaking area, I have the largest number of Christians, and they have been living harmoniously with their Muslim brothers. I therefore commend the people of my constituency on the existing cordial relationship between major religions within my area. It is something to be cherished and encouraged.”????????
Commenting on proposed removal of fuel subsidy by President Goodluck Jonathan, Kutigi, who is also member of House Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), said? government should dialogue with the people in whatever policy it planned to pursue.?
According to him, “There has been miscommunication between the leaders and the people. This is brought about lack of communication. Nigerians need to know the advantages and disadvantages of this policy. Only then can people appreciate whatever action government will take.”
“Clearly, as it is now, Nigerians only know about the negative impact of the removal; Nigerians need to know what the positive impact will be. So I am of the opinion that government should engage more with the people on this issue, and this should be at all levels of the society.”
