The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, has ascribed the unfortunate series of bombings in the country to the effects of corruption.
Kukah state this yesterday in Sokoto during an interview with LEADERSHIP.
He said, “In my view, it is like drinking poison from a well and the result is where all of us are finding ourselves. As a priest, corruption is in churches; as a journalist, corruption has crept into the media and as military it is the bureaucracy. There is no single area of our national life that is not widely consumed by corruption, including family life.”
Condemning the recent attacks on churches by Boko Haram, Kukah urged all leaders of both Christian and Muslim faiths to disassociate themselves from such acts to ensure peace in the country.
He said that if adequate measures were not taken, the threat to the different faiths would spread to all areas of national life.
Speaking on the prediction that Nigeria would soon disintegrate as a consequence of the worsening violence, Kukah said, “The prediction was a normal routine report believed and carried out by Americans which Nigerians have never believed in”.
Kukah also urged the government to act fast in the interest of the masses to find lasting solutions to the whole situation. On his recent ordination as the Bishop of Sokoto Dioceses, Kukah said, I view myself in Sokoto as a Nigerian and not as one belonging to the other side of Nigeria, I spend most of my time with Muslims and was conversant with cultures and the heritage of Muslims.”
He thanked the people of the state for the warm reception accorded to him during his coronation, describing Sokoto State as the most peaceful state in the federation.
