A 25-year-old man, Iman Bello a native of Kogi State has murdered his friend over a pair of jean trousers, in Gwagwalada.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP, Bello, who is a painter, stated he that he was friends with the deceased, Chibuzo and they were so close that they wore each other’s clothes.
“We were friends. We used to wear clothes together. He took my jean trouser and refused to return it. We started fighting. I stabbed him on the neck with a knife. Between God and man, I didn’t know I will kill him. After the thing happened, he just left. It was the next morning that I heard he had died,” he said.
Bello said when he heard about the death of his friend, he had rushed to stay with his brother in Suleja but that his brother advised him to go back and hand himself over to the police.
He stated that he never knew that the fight would lead to death and that if he had known he would have allowed Chibuzo to leave after he had accosted him.
Bello swore that if he came out from the problem, he would use his time as a youth to serve God and advised other youths to avoid fighting at all cost.
“I am not a murderer and I pray that God saves me from this. I don’t want anybody’s blood on my head. If God helps me out of this problem, I will serve him all my life,” he added.
Bello is cooling his heels at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Gwagwalada and would be arraigned in court soon.
