The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) Suleja Business District is set to collect about N1.1 billion debts from her customers.
The Business Manager of the district, Alhaji Mohammed Shakur told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview in Suleja yesterday that the district was poised to collect the debts in order to complete ongoing network upgrading.
Shakur said: “The present revenue generation is about N40 million as against energy worth N90 million and that is what has led to the present staggering debt portfolio of N1.1billion.”
He appealed to customers to settle all their outstanding bills promptly to avoid the embarrassment of been disconnected from the network.
Shakur further said the district intends to construct four injection substations at Madalla, Field Base Second Gate, Sabon Wuse and Maje, all in a bid to improve power supply to its customers.
“All these investment in the projects run into millions of Naira and their completion will deliver additional 30MVA power to the Suleja Business Unit.
“All these projects were intended to better the lots of our customer population which is about 40,000 and span across seven local government areas in the district,” he added.
He said the district had already installed 70 additional transformers and re-conducted about 10km of its existing high tension 11KV feeders to improve power supply, just as it had re-adjusted bills worth N500 million in favour of its customers, whom were issued with crazy bills after due diligence and investigations.
The district manager said the major problems affecting the district included lack of power supply, as the district received only 10mw as against the 40mw required by consumers in the district.
