Following the terrorist activities of the Boko Haram Islamic sect, groups under the aegis of the Arewa Civil Societies Forum (ASCF) has called for the sack of security chiefs in the country, for their failure to protect the life and property of the Nigerian citizens.
This is coming on the heels of the statement credited to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Andrew Azazi, who was quoted to have said that security cannot be provided everywhere.
In reaction, the forum averred: “It means they cannot do their jobs effectively; therefore, they should be sacked immediately.”
In a press conference addressed yesterday by leaders of the groups, National Secretary, National Conscience Party (NCP), Dr. Yunusa Tanko; President, Arewa Defence League (ADL), Malam Murtala Abubakar, and Secretary, Northern Civil Society Alliance, Suleiman Ahmed,? the forum condemned in strong terms the Christmas Day bombings in parts of the North which the Boko Haram claimed responsibility.
The group also called on religious leaders at all levels and across the divide to rise up to the challenge of combating the security problems rather than apportioning blames.
It? urged northern governors to rise up to the challenge and address the situation with all sincerity of purpose in order to stop the killings of innocent citizens.
It said: “The forum calls for an immediate end to all acts of sectarian violence in the north or any part of Nigeria, as it reiterates our firm conviction that no objective can justify these cowardly attacks on worshippers who gathered in peace and prayer to celebrate a day which symbolises harmony.”
