Unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers yesterday morning shot dead a young lady and two officials of the State Traffic Management Agency (TIMARIV) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
When LEADERSHIP? visited the scene of the incident shortly after the attack, along a traffic junction in Emekuku Street of Agudama area of the state capital, it gathered that there was pandemonium when the gunmen opened fire in the busy commercial area as traders and passers-by scampered for safety.
Eye witnesses at the scene told our correspondent that the unidentified gunmen, who drove in a vehicle opened fire, killing the lady and the traffic officials in the morning and drove away while shooting sporadically into the air, without taking anything from their victims.
The Rivers State police command, in a report made available to LEADERSHIP, confirmed the attack, saying the gunmen are gang of armed robbers, who broke into a liquor company, using sledge and hammer and took away N8million.
“A gang of armed robbers attacked Paddy man Nig. Ltd, a liquor company at 3 Ojoto Street, Mile 2, Port Harcourt. The robbers who operated with a Passat car, colour ash, broke into the strong room of the company with? a sledge hammer and took about N8million. Customers at the scene were also robbed of their valuables.
“Azikwe Police Station team confronted the robbers and in the course of exchanging fire? a police Constable sustained bullet wound. The robbers managed to escape into Ada George Road where at the junction along Emenike, along Ikwerre road, the robbers shot and killed two TIMARIV recruits controlling traffic , “police image-maker in the State, Ben Ugwuegbulam said.
